Marcelo A. Savi holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and is a Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE - Department of Mechanical Engineering) where he develops research and teaching activities as the Head of the Center for Nonlinear Mechanics. He has published over 450 journal and conference papers, 5 books and about 15 book chapters. He has administrative experience as a department head, graduate coordinator, and member of university committees. He is member of academic societies including ASME and ABCM, where he participates in the Committee of Dynamics; Smart Materials and Structures; and Nonlinear Phenomena and Chaos. Research interests are related to nonlinear mechanics, especially smart material and structures; nonlinear dynamics, chaos and control; and biomechanics and ecology.
